20.2 Deferred exams
Deferred exams will only be granted in the case of special circumstances. Mary Andrews College may grant a deferral if it is satisfied that special circumstances apply to you that are:
- beyond your control, and
- make it impracticable for you to complete the assessment(s) during the period in which you undertook, or were to undertake, the subject.
The Registrar will be satisfied that your circumstances are beyond your control if a situation occurs which a reasonable person would consider is not due to your action or inaction, either direct or indirect, and for which you are not responsible. The situation must be unusual, uncommon or abnormal.
Special circumstances that would make it impracticable for you to complete the assessment(s) would include:
- medical circumstances, or
- family circumstances, or
- personal circumstances, or
- employment related circumstances, or
- course of study related circumstances.
All applications for deferred assessments must be in writing and should be received by the Registrar of Mary Andrews College before the due date of the assessment. The Registrar may waive the time limit for making the application if she is satisfied it was not possible for you to apply within the time limit.
Deferred assessments may only be granted if the assessment has not yet been attempted.
Each application will be examined and determined on its merits. The Registrar will consider your claims, together with independent supporting documentary evidence that substantiates these claims. Any applications made on medical grounds must include a doctor's certificate that covers the period in question.
Deferred assessments must be completed no later than the first week of August for Semester 1 enrolments and no later than the first week of February for Semester 2 enrolments.
