One day conference on 17 March 2012 at Ryde

Col Marshall is a man who has put in some hefty air miles since the publication of his and Tony Payne’s book, “The Trellis and the Vine”. From Ireland to the heartland of the USA, he has been running workshops based on the book, designed to help churches grow disciples of Christ.

Over the past few years, Col has enjoyed presenting his ideas and strategies to women in particular.

“Though I see it more acutely in the US, I think that women often feel relegated to the role of support, catering and behind the scenes ministry, rather than the front line of ministering the word of God to others. So many women have outstanding gifts in teaching children and youth, but can lack the confidence to minister to their peers, either one to one or in groups. I hope that at this workshop, we will see women from all over the diocese who want the experience of God using them in this way. We are a very educated diocese and I sometimes think that we feel we should have a degree in theology before we can open our mouths! A lot of women think it is the minister’s job to teach and that God won’t use them in that way. But it is a circular process: as women grow in confidence in knowing God’s word, they share it more easily, and as a result, experience great spiritual growth themselves.”

Col has always enjoyed having women at his workshops. “I have consistently found - all over the world - that women engage very quickly and easily with the concepts and strategies I am teaching. They are far more able to ask questions and talk about their struggles and difficulties than men. I am really looking forward to this just-for-women seminar. I expect it to be a highlight of my year!”
