Meet Dr Nicole Starling: MAC’s Academic Dean

Dr Nicole Starling appointed Academic Dean of Mary Andrews College.

Mary Andrews College is delighted to announce that Dr Nicole Starling has been appointed as Academic Dean, commencing 31 October 2022.

Nicole has been lecturing at MAC for the past 18 months, while also completing a PhD and post-doctoral fellowship. Nicole’s research has focused on Christian social activism in nineteenth century Australia, and she is writing a book on evangelicalism and the temperance movement.

Nicole did her initial theological study at Morling College. She says of her time studying, “I especially loved learning more about the history of ideas and the ways Christians have applied the Bible in their different contexts over time. I had four young children at the time, so that was a challenge, but it was also a great time of life to think deeply about God and his world and what it looks like to follow Jesus.”

In her new role, Nicole will continue teaching at MAC across a variety of units. She shares, “I love teaching the students at MAC. Over the past 18 months it has been one of the highlights of my week! The students are engaged and eager to learn. They always encourage me with their own insights into what we are studying, so I am excited to be able to continue that. I also love the practical focus of the units offered at MAC. I’ve always been passionate about making connections between theology, Christian history, the Bible and our everyday lives and MAC is very deliberate about tailoring their units to achieve this.”

Acting Principal Jackie Stoneman says, “We are very excited about Nicole taking on the role of Academic Dean at Mary Andrews College. Nicole is already on the faculty at MAC and she is very suited to this additional role. Nicole has a passion for women to grow in their faith. In her new role as Academic Dean Nicole will be responsible for maintaining the academic rigour and high standard of teaching that MAC offers. We look forward to her using her gifts and experience to serve our students, faculty and to fulfil our responsibilities as an affiliated college with the Australian College of Theology.”

Please join us in thanking God for Nicole’s appointment, and pray for her as she commences in this important role.

“I am looking forward to being able to assist students as they navigate their way through their studies at MAC,” Nicole says.

“It’s a privilege to be part of the work of equipping women to serve Jesus.”
