A Conversation with Nancy Guthrie about Life, Loss and Theology

Nancy Guthrie is a Bible teacher and author whose theology has been shaped not only through study, but through profound personal loss. She often says that the most important thing God has given her is a love for him and for his Word, which she describes as “a treasure to be mined”—revealing the wisdom and beauty of God’s plan to redeem all things through Christ.

After the loss of two of her children, who were born with a rare genetic disorder and each lived only six months, Nancy found herself digging deeply into Scripture in search of answers to the hardest questions about God and how he works. She teaches with honesty and warmth, sharing openly the deep hurts of her life while remaining grounded in hope.

These experiences led her to write Holding On to Hope: A Pathway of Suffering to the Heart of God, along with many other books that reflect her compassion for hurting people and her passion for applying God’s Word to real life. Her desire is that Christ would be seen more clearly—even, and especially, in seasons of sorrow. –

Please join us to hear Nancy speak on life, on loss and how theology can bring comfort, clarity, and meaning in the midst of grief.

Theology After Dark

Theology often gets dismissed as something abstract or irrelevant. But in truth, every Christian is a theologian. Every one of us has words (logos) about God (theos) - and those words shape how we love, lead, and live.

Drawing on Mary Andrews College’s legacy of integrating Scripture with real life, this night offers the kind of theological wrestling that happens best once the day’s distractions have faded away. Expect robust biblical scholarship paired with warmth, community, and the kind of conversations that linger long after you leave.

This free online ‘Evening with MAC’ session will be exploring some of the pitfalls and comforts of the theology of Christian hope, building on the Scriptures and dialoguing with voices from the Christian past.
