“Our hope is that you'll gain a new understanding of how the Bible speaks to daily life, along with a glimpse of why theology really is for everyone.”

‘On Knowing’
Many of us assume that if we know the right things, then we’ll live the right way. If we could learn the Bible more clearly, think more deeply, and grasp the right truths, then surely our lives would follow.
And yet, our everyday experience is rarely that simple.
We know that patience matters but still speak sharply. We know prayer is good but struggle to do it. We know how we should live—and yet we struggle to live those things out. There is a gap between what we know and how we live.
This short series is an invitation for you to come and explore that gap with me.
Over five days, we’re going to think about what it means to know God—not just in our minds, but in our whole lives. Along the way, we’ll see that the issue is not that we need more information, but that we might better understand what kind of beings we are, what kind of knowing is involved, and how God, by his Spirit, shapes us over time into the likeness of Christ.
Meet your guide
An educator and theologian, Rev. Dr Becki Philip will be taking us through our Everyday Theology series this June.
Becki is passionate about the intersection of education, theology, and Christian ministry. She holds a PhD in curriculum from Sydney University and theological studies from Moore Theological College. As Dean of Education at Mary Andrews College, she brings a distinctive blend of theological insight and innovative learning design to shape the college’s educational offerings with depth, creativity, and purpose.
About Everyday Theology
Each series is written by one of our world-class lecturers from Mary Andrews College. In past series, we’ve delved into ‘The Good Life’: what the Bible says about living ethically in this world; and ‘The Bible and your Wellbeing’: how theology intersects with psychological wellness.
Our conviction at Mary Andrews College is that we all need more theology, not less. When we learn theology, we understand more of God and how to live in his world. But how do we fit even a little bit of theology into the frantic busyness of our lives?
Everyday Theology is a free, short email series that gives you short, sharp theology. For five days, you’ll get an email from us with a theological reflection, a question for you to ponder, and a way to interact in community with the ideas you are wrestling with.
Our aim with Everyday Theology is that they’re short enough to read or watch over your morning tea or coffee—and deep enough to last a lifetime.
You can sign up now and you’ll receive the next series when it starts.
Why learn theology?
At its heart, theology is the study of words about God—who he is, how he’s revealed himself to us in Jesus, saved us through the cross, and what that means for us.
We're all theologians, practising theology every day, whenever we think about God, comfort a friend with Scripture, or try to understand his will in difficult circumstances.
That’s why we believe learning theology should be accessible to all people, at every stage of life—taught in a way that’s relevant to you, your ministry and your life.
When we do theology well, we’re learning how to live well: understanding the creator God and how he’s made this world; finding the right words to counsel friends; navigating the world with grace and wisdom.
That’s what learning with Mary Andrews College does. We’d love you to come and join us!
About Mary Andrews College
At Mary Andrews College, we help women and men grow in their knowledge of God and capacity to serve others—not just for a semester, but for a lifetime.
We know, from Scripture, that when we study his word, we find an invitation to fall more deeply in love with him. When we consider the gospel, the death and resurrection of Jesus, it’s this love that not only transforms our lives but spills out into the lives of those around us.
We've held this conviction since 1891. Our namesake Mary Andrews, who served as Principal for over 20 years, said: “The measure of what you can do for the world will be simply what you let God do with yourself.”
Every lesson in your course connects biblical understanding with real-life implications—at home, at work, in your church, in your community.
Theology is for everyone
We’d love for you to join us for our next series!
