Everyday Theology: On Knowing

– Rev. Dr Becki Philip

Many of us assume that if we know the right things, then we’ll live the right way. If only we could understand the Bible more clearly, think more deeply, and grasp the right truths, surely our lives would follow.

And yet, our everyday experience is rarely that simple.

We know that patience matters but still speak sharply. We know prayer is good but struggle to do it. We know how we should live—and yet we struggle to do those things in the day to day. There is a gap between what we know and how we live.

This short series is an invitation for you to come and explore that gap with me.

Starting tomorrow, we’re going to spend 5 days thinking about what it means to know God—not just in our minds, but with our whole selves. Along the way, we’ll see that the issue is not that we need more information, but that we might better understand what kind of beings we are, what kind of knowing is involved, and how God, by his Spirit, shapes us over time into the likeness of Christ.

Each day, you’ll receive a theological reflection to read, a question to ponder and discuss, a simple practice to try, and a suggested prayer.
